Maria Marini Private tour guide in Athens - Greece

Maria Marini

Guide profile:

Ok! Here it goes!

I would begin by saying that most (if not all)licensed guides in Greece are qualified for the job which is keeping this service at high standars. Personally I try my best every time so as for all clients to feel my guests keeping my professionalism and using all possible background (a tourist's guide license, a History & Archaeology degree, teaching teenagers for a few years, being an amateur photographer and from childhood a naturelover). As creating the picture in a jigsaw puzzle I put all the pieces together so as to make an interesting story for clients to follow no matter their age, origin or interests. The story of a city, Athens, that reflects the story of the country itself in the cource of time due to the variety of monuments that date in various periods of time! Don't hesitate booking a tour with me! You won't be disappointed! Contact me in advance for availability! Kali antamosi (in greek looking forward to meeting you)!

We highly recommend Maria. She is very knowledgeable, with excellent English. She listened to what we were interested in and created an itinerary that made the best use of our day in Athens. Our many questions about Athens complex history were consistently rewarded with her insightful answers. Maria also gave us a lot of options throughout the day so we always felt we were making the best use of our time. Maria is a delightful companion and we enjoyed our time with her.

Tour guide services/sample itinerary:

Hard to give it briefly because of the many different combinations but...

in Athens

-half day tour including a visit to the Acropolis hill with its monuments and a visit to the nearby New Acropolis Museum (both most visited in the city and ofcourse two of not to be missed!)

-full day tour (more than 4h) including apart from the above a visit to the Ancient (Classical) Agora, the temple of Zeus and the theater of Dionysos

- there are more options including museums and sites in the city according to the availiable time and interests e.g. The National Archaeological Museum, the Mpenaki museum, the Cycladic Museum, Athens Cathedral & Little Metropolis, the old city center a.k.a. Plaka with historical buildings, central underground metro stations where collections of ancient artwork are displayed (yes, indeed!) and last but not least modern markets! Most of the above can be visited either walking there or driving to the spot which comes to the following category (transportation)

-And if the above are not enough and you want to explore the surroundings of Athens there are some fascinating sites we could visit in a day, Delphi the ancient oracle, Epidaurus most known for the ancient theater, Mycenae the pre-historic citadel, Nafplion former capital of Greece, Eleusis where the goddess of Agriculture was worshipped, Corinth that Apostle Paul visited, Cape Sounion and again last but not least Aegina, one of the closest islands to Athens that happens to be the place I grew up!

Transportation by tour guide:

Yes, transportation can be arranged upon request in cooperation with reliable taxi and/or minivans companies at an extra cost

Tour guide interests:

Already given some clues...photography, travelling (also when not working), bicycling, cooking, watching movies, enjoying a good book sitting at a cafe, swimming and exploring new places and neighbourhoods
