Other than spending five years in the United States (Portland, Oregon) when I was a small child, I have lived in various parts of Japan such as Tokyo, Yokohama and Osaka. After about 10 years in the maritime industry, I made the switch to becoming a tour guide and now in my fourth year.
After previously being based in the Tokyo area, I am currently focusing on the Nikko area and the surroundings, about 2 hours to the north of the capital city. Highlights in this region include the World Heritage sites of the Toshogu Shrine, renovated steam trains running around the Kinugawa Onsen area, or the Oya Stone Museum just outside of Utsunomiya - a massive former stone quarry - my personal favorite. Depending on the season you are visiting, Ashikaga Flower Park is a lovely place to visit, especially for the wisteria which has received international recognition including from CNN.
I can also assist on tasks to make your stay stress-free. The little things like where to exchange money, help in buying train tickets for the remainder of your stay, advice on the best way to get to/from the airport and so on.
Please note I am available only on selected days, so be sure to message me first and check. Never make a booking before contact. I am not able to do tours on multiple dates. Thank you!

Tour guide services/sample itinerary:
I can do a tour based in the Nikko/Kinugawa Onsen or Utsunomiya area. For meeting in other regions such as Tokyo, different rates apply so please note.
Transportation by tour guide:
While you do not have to pay for the tour guide, your own fares for public transportation are not included in the tour price. Sorry but tours with use of a private vehicle is not available.
My style of guiding involves a fair amount of walking, and the use of stairs in many cases.

Tour guide interests:
I have worked with a few other tour guides on architecture tours in and around Tokyo. I'm a big baseball fan and I have been to many of the stadiums in Japan but also in the US, Korea and Taiwan. I like to travel whenever I can find time - one of the benefits of working freelance!
