Herbert Lin Private tour guide in Beijing - China

Herbert Lin

Guide profile:

Find a reliable friend on your first day in Beijing. I am the person you need . No shopping means no waste of your time and money . Your happiness will be my best reward.

I was born in Beijing, and have been living in the city for more than 30 years.Every day I see the development of the city, witness the flat buildings and narrow alleys in 1980's changed to skyscrapers and wide streets. Because three generations of my family live in Beijing, I know more about secluded Hutongs behind the bustle of the city, even the stories on each brick caving. I love the city, whatever the Hutongs(living area of local people) or the imperial buildings. I enjoy to tell historical stories to others. I hope foreigners can know more about Beijing as well as China. Meanwhile , I also hope visitors can enjoy their time in Beijing. It will be exciting to emerge in Hutongs . Being accompanied by me , visitors will find that there are always stories behind every old buildings .

Usually I obey guests' opinions , no matter they want to take bus or charter a car in the city or go to the Great Wall. I only give them suggestions. But if we are in the downtown, I strongly recommend no to take taxi , because it is very hard to find a taxi on Beijing street, especially near an attraction.

Herbert was a wonderful guide in Beijing. We hired him for 3 full days while in town on vacation and he was always reliable, happy, informative and punctual. He made us feel welcome in his city and also made us feel very comfortable and safe! We appreciated his ability to drive us to the Great Wall and also take local taxis and the bus service efficiently. He was a very honest man that we could trust. We would recommend him for your family!! 5 stars all the way, thanks Herbert!

Excellent time! We just recommended him to another group. He took us to visit the Great Wall where they take U.S. Presidents. He drove us to see where Peking Man was discovered. He suggested stopping on way back to see the Marco Polo bridge and the (excellent museum) Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression War Museum. Beijing was a wonderful experience due largely to Mr. Lin. He ordered our food, navigated us and purchased our tickets- in hot July! History lover. Flexible.

!!! BEST TOUR GUIDE EVER !!! My husband and I have just visited a couple of places in China and booked different tour guides. In hindsight, Herbert was the best and I can highly recommend him. Not only is he knowledgeable, friendly and speaks good English, but he loves his job and is passionate about his city. Herbert is the kind of guy I would like to work with and I would happily invite into my house. Decent, friendly, intelligent guy you will love to spend the day with. Highly recommended!!!

AMAZING AMAZING tour guide! Highly recommend! Our flight was delayed for 3 hours; we weren't able to contact him but he still waited 3 hours for us in our hotel lobby. He showed us so many places with great historical stories within 2 days in a cost and time effective way. No pressure on shopping. Very enthusiastic, energetic and passionate about Beijing. We felt extemely safe with him around. Brought tears to our eyes when we had to leave him. Wish he could have come with us to other cities!

Herbert was congenial and flexible as well as informative. He was open about sharing 'life in Beijing' as well. We enjoyed the subway, walking and taxis as needed and saw the highlights of our target sites at our own speed. It was a pleasurable experience and we recommend Herbert.

Herbert was my guide in Beijing for three days in March 2013. He spoke good English, was punctual and knowledgeable, and had a good sense of humour. With him as my guide, I managed to pack in much more than I would have been able to see on my own. I was particulalrly pleased that he did not waste any of my precious time in Beijing by trying to lure me into shops which would give him a commission. I highly recommend him.

Herbert was a very helpful tour guide. We were traveling with three children under 6 and it would have been impossible without him. He helped carry our 3-year-old when he got tired, and was very patient over all. We had a great time seeing Beijing with his help.

Tour Guide Comment: Thanks for your good review. I hope you enjoyed your time in Beijng. Your kids are very lovely, I also had a wonderful time with them.

It was difficult to hail a cab within Beijing and arriving to locations on time. Herbert was at the hotel on time, but didn't have a well laid plan for all of our activities. He walked us through the forbidden city in a run that didn't leave us time to explore. I would recommend that he spend less time on "We Chat"(his phone) and more time sharing historical details. We ended the day showing him how to use UBER when there were NO other options to get hotel at the end of the day. We wanted more:(

Tour Guide Comment: Great apology to Mr. Krillenberger.I anwsered my former guests on Wechat. But I told them all the history. They got off the properest bus before it moved , because the bus is expensive . 30 minutes was spent for taxi. We walked more slowly than others, because one of them has problem on leg.Uber cars are illegal in China now .
