Guide profile:
I was born in Barcelona but I grew up further up north, in Figueres area. I studied Translation and Interpreter Studies and History at the University of Barcelona.
I have travelled much, specially backpacking when I was a student. I also lived abroad for a few years, in Rio de Janeiro (Brasil), London (UK) and Bergen (Norway) where I began working as a guide.
I came back to my hometown seven years ago and after taking an intensive course and pass an official exam, I became a licensed tour guide in Catalonia.
I love my job because it is wonderful to be able to show the best spots in Barcelona and other parts of Catalonia to travelers and tourists. I am very social, talkative and love meeting people from all around the world. This job keeps me always busy, reading and learning and then sharing this knowledge in my tours.
I enjoy very much discussing about history and architecture. I am passionate about arts, painting and sculpture as well as music, and it is great that in Barcelona there are gigs all the time and a good choice of dance and theatre shows.
I am a food lover and I appreciate any chance of trying our outstanding local wines.
If you are interested in visiting the main highlights, I will be glad to take you there and tell you about the sites. If you would like to learn specifically about a subject such as the Medieval past of the city, its Jewish Heritage or Modern Style architecture in Barcelona you can have your taylor-made tour which I will be delighted to plan for you. If you would rather get off the beaten-track, there are plenty of interesting places in the city where tourists do not usually go, so you can mix with the locals and have a more authentic experience.
It is absolutely recommendable to take at least a day out of the city to discover a more traditonal Catalonia, with amazing landscapes and ancient villages. Barcelona is international, cosmopolitan, busy, the rest of Catalonia is a bit different, is more local.
If you are a week in Barcelona, I would advise you to take a couple of day trips out of the city. A day up north visiting Girona and the Costa Brava or the Dalí museum -if you are interested in art. Another day devote it to Montserrat mountain and Manresa -to visit the cave of St Ignatius de Loyola- or the wineries in Penedés. If you are interested in Roman heritage, do not miss Tarragona, our little Rome!
In the city all the time there is something happening. Theatre, cinema or music festivals, festivities in any of the neighborhoods, activities for families and kids, great exhibitions, traditional fairs... I will also let you know what you cannot miss meanwhile in Barcelona!

A fantastic tour by a fantastic guide.
We were a Group of 10 guys picked up at Hotel by Gemma, driver Carlos and air conditioned Minibus.
On our way through Barcelona to our destination of the Vineyard Pares Balte, Gemma educated us on some history of the region and kept us interested with her knowledge and also her mastery of the English language. Gemma's attention to detail was amazing arriving bang on time and having us back in time for our evening trip to Camp Nou.
Lovely lady! Thanks Gem

Gemma was excellent
My sister and I were in Barcelona for 3 days accompanying our 87 year old mother who is in a wheelchair.
Nothing was too much trouble for Gemma.
Her English is perfect, her knowledge very sound, she is adaptable and flexible and kind
We did a city tour and a trip to montserrat. All the practicalities for the wheelchair were considered.I would recommend Gemma very highly as a guide in and around Barcelona
