I am an Iranian-American woman who came to visit Mexico for 1 year and ended up deciding to live here. After working for 12 years in community grantmaking programs of small-scale foundations, and 14 years of implementing study-abroad programs for university students visiting Mexico, I started my website Journeys Beyond the Surface to offer custom services to travellers coming to Mexico City.

Tour guide services/sample itinerary:

PRICE GIVEN IS FOR ONE PERSON: price for 2 people: $170. 3 people: $180. 4 or more people: $190. I prepare personalized daytrips in and around Mexico City, to get to know any aspect of interest to you. Some just want an excellent tour guide for the principal historical sites, so I arrange for the right person for your needs. Others want to go beyond the surface, off the beaten track, to street markets, use public transport, understand the everyday life here. With those people, I walk the streets and lend you my eyes, the eyes of a foreigner who lives in and loves Mexico. Still others want to visit a non-profit or activist in a topic of interest to them; in those cases, I make contacts with the appropriate organization or person, accompany you and translate the session. The person or group who receives us gets a small donation for their cause, this is not included in the per day price given here and is usually around $30-$50, depending on the group size.

Transportation by tour guide:

We use public transport (metro) unless you specifically request private transport. You pay for private transport extra, it is not included in the per-day fee.
