Working as an inbound travel agent in Belarus I started to organize short Minsk excursions for English-speaking audience gradually switching to more complex tours. It then occurred to me that a modern travel agent rarely contacts the customer directly and mainly deals with papers. This and the acknowledgement of the fact that self-employment is the best thing on earth helped me to become a licensed Minsk guide majoring in private tours.
I like my job very much because it offers new contacts, improves my knowledge of the history and culture of Belarus and every mission is different from a previous one even if it is a Minsk city tour. No other job would allow me to travel to the natural reserves of Belarus or to remote villages in search of a customer's family roots or to talk to the survivors of the historic events such as WWII...
